Spring Training

Well Arwen is doing well. I have not had a lot of time to blog lately with spring being here and us being so busy. Kyle is training Arwen and they are both doing well. He longes her and is learning how to groom better. She is very good and stands still. She got her feet done the other day and did pretty good for a 2 yr old. She snatched a bit on front but then decided that mom scratching her face was more interesting, so she then proceeded to doze off. She always makes me laugh so hard. She is a real character. She has discovered the pond and has been filthy every day so we have to groom and rinse her often. She is always the first one to greet us when we go into the pasture and loves to follow us around like a HUGE puppy. Everyone at the barn talks about how lovely and sweet she is. We are really proud to have her with us.

Kyle longes her with a soft rope instead of a whip. She does well except she is a bit clingy sometimes so he is working on teaching her boundaries. She is so willing to please it is not like training time at all. I think she will be really easy to saddle train.
I will post more pictures of her shortly.

Getting Adjusted

Well we have been busy lately making sure that Arwen adjusts properly. After two days of being in with supervised turn out, she finally got turned out into the pasture behind the barn. She got turned out with the baby for a buddy.
She did wonderful. She moseyed around a bit then ate hay. Checked out the horses on the other side of the fence then came back to the hay.
The second day out they put Red out with her as well as the baby. Red is an older horse that is pretty calm so we knew he wouldn't bother Arwen.

Wednesday, we turned her out into the big pasture with the herd. I am so mad at myself for not taking the video camera.
She went out and took off running. She was so beautiful. Well that got the attention of the herd who had to see what the commotion was about. I was worried about Aslan, Heaven and Little Man as they are the most dominant.
Sure enough Heaven took off after her and chased her for a bit. Arwen ran but seemed to actually enjoy it. Little man tried to go after her and she put her rear to him pretty quick and he gave up.
Aslan came after her and saw the back of her hooves a little too close to his face so he ran off to dominate someone else. We really enjoyed watching the herd dynamics.
Now the whole herd felt goofy and everyone ran all around the pasture kicking up heels, bucking and snorting. It was so beautiful watching them.
We waited to leave after Arwen was allowed to drop her head and graze and the others went back to the hay. Praise God she made it through the first day out without a scratch.
She has not integrated enough to bully her way into the hay ring yet but she is fine grazing. Red, I have noticed, grazes beside her so she has great protection.
I am attaching a slide show of her first few days.

Meet Arwen!

Arwen is our new family member. We were looking for a horse for Kyle and found her online. She was on a site with another horse we were interested in looking at. We called the people and set up a meeting time and we took the two hour drive.

The people were a far cry from the previous sellers we had dealt with. These people were super nice, honest and Godly. It was such a breath of fresh air after what Kyle and I had been through.
The pastures were gorgeous and all the horses were extremely content. It was a good start to what I wanted to see. They brought out Arwen (aka Sunshine then) and I was stunned at how gorgeous she was. A full blooded Tennessee Walker, tall and graceful. Although she is young, she had the quiet temperment of a classy lady.
We spent a couple of hours there and Kyle told me he wanted her. I asked if he was sure because I wanted him to be happy with his choice (I was crossing my fingers behind my back because I LOVED her) and he said that he felt in his spirit she was the one, the same way I felt when I got Aslan.

We had to ask the family to hold her because we wanted the mouth issue at the barn cleared up* before we brought her home. I was not sure if that would fly but they obliged when we explained what was going on. We felt so blessed to have met this family and I feel God has graced us once more by extending our family yet again.
